1521-1946 – An expedition led by
Ferdinand Magellan reached the Philippines in 1521.1565 - The first
Spanish settlement by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi on the island of Cebu.
1570s - Legazpi formed the city of Manila. After 300 years of Spanish

1942 American forces on the Philippine island of Corregido
surrendered to the Japanese. Thousands of the American servicemen
